Paella Competition

I have to admit, during my first year organising activities, I was quite surprised because I thought everyone made rice dishes on Sundays, or at least that's what I believed, so I didn't really understand what made it so appealing.

But as soon as I made my debut, I understood everything at once: cooking your own paellas as a company incentive is quite an experience; they add prawns, mussels, clams, or whatever, and if the corporate team is from outside our borders, it's even more picturesque.

And here we are, twenty-three years and a bit later, enjoying this team competition where the groups have to cook their own rice and then eat it.

We call this team-building activity the Paella Contest, but we try to avoid talking about paellas as much as possible, out of respect for the land where they are perfected.

So, in our initial briefing with the group last Tuesday, we made it very clear that what they were going to make was a rice dish like the ones made in my house, because paella originates from the lands by the Albufera.

But it's as if you were speaking Chinese to them, with talk of paella here and paella there, although it didn't make any difference because the important thing was that they had a great time.
