Back again in the Montgrí, Medes Islands and Baix Ter Natural Park with another client ready to invest their team-building day in environmental volunteering.
Initially, we offered to work on the maintenance of the reforestation we carried out a few months ago with another company. However, the parks we visited need to carry out different tasks depending on the season. So, a representative came to explain in detail what their needs were last week.
In addition to welcoming us and thanking us for our efforts, the maintenance technician mentioned that it was important to remove the logs and large branches that the Ter River deposits on the beach, but that the main task would be to dig a series of trenches and install fencing to retain sand in the dunes when the wind blows.
We were told that the timing is delicate because there's a small bird protected by European laws – the Kentish plover – that is breeding and needs these dunes to protect its nests. The park considered it appropriate to take advantage of our large group, and we organised 4 subgroups of about 20 to 25 people; some were responsible for fencing off the dunes, and others for waste removal on the beach.
