The Tower of Power
We can use this activity to discuss and illustrate the following topics: listening techniques, team interaction, manager-employee communication, problem-solving within groups, identifying success and failure factors, cooperation, roles within groups, feedback processes, correlation systems.
We know that great teams make great things happen, but the constant challenge of understanding and even expanding objectives is very demanding for everyone involved. “How should we treat each other?”, “What is important to each of us in teamwork?”, “Who takes the lead?”. We need to answer some of these questions. The answers are the key to producing effectiveness and synergy in teamwork.
How to play. The facilitator places 8 wooden blocks on the floor. Each team member takes a rope that is connected to a crane. The task is to use the crane to build a tower by placing the blocks one on top of another. The participants are not allowed to touch the blocks with their hands, or any part of their body. The task seems simple, but with each block being cut at a different angle, it becomes necessary for all participants to work together, building the tower starts to become difficult! This task can only be solved by means of a precise plan, good communication and a well-organised team.
There is an XXL version for up to 34 people.
