Protected since 1983 and declared a Protected National Natural Park in 2010, these islands opposite Estartit (Baix Empordà, Girona) boast an enviable seabed, a product of their proximity to the mouth of the River Ter. They are one of the most important marine reserves in the Mediterranean.
Yesterday we went to get to know them. We rented some kayaks and, setting off from the L'Estartit marina, we paddled for half an hour to appreciate their beauty. Sport fishing is prohibited, and diving or gatherings of leisure boats are policed, meaning that the fauna and flora of these islands are protected, which are well worth a small effort to appreciate, even if only from the sea.
