Peña Oroel is a mountain 1,769 metres high, located in Huesca, next to the city of Jaca. It isn't very high, but it has a lot of character and is very familiar due to its high visibility from anywhere in the city. Its summit is only 5.5 km from the city centre as the crow flies.
Access from the Parador de Oroel (1,200 m, only 9 km from Jaca) is very easy, as its Northern base can be reached by car. This slope is a red-rock wall, completed by a very steep incline covered with a lush and attractive forest of pine trees at the lower part and fir trees at the upper part.
This week we had the pleasure of climbing it. It took us an hour and a half to go up, and I estimate a little over an hour to come down. It's funny how sometimes the descent is much harder, as the joints suffer more and we're no longer twenty-somethings. Another beautiful experience for our holiday.
