The “Rafael” is one of the few boats still sailing, and at the time, it was designed to fish solely with the force of the wind as propulsion. This lateen-rigged sailing boat, built in 1915 for pair fishing (meaning it was always accompanied by another vessel), is ideal for educational, sporting, tourist, and cultural activities related to sailing.
It is moored in the port of Palamós, and one of the most decisive activities is to go out and delight in a pleasure notoriously identified with this municipality: the red prawn. If you already know it, you will surely remember its intense red colour and its very special flavour; it is a true joy, an unmistakable flavour of the Costa Brava.
This excursion allows us to discover the coastal area where this crustacean is fished, tasting this delicacy at sea accompanied by a good white wine from Empordà. But the best part is the sensation of sailing in a cabin that feels like a room in any house; it's like a journey back in time to an era when life at sea was very different to how we know it, and when all the work had to be done through sheer physical effort.
