Pallars Sobirà

It must have been from prehistoric times, when dinosaurs, that I got to know and fell in love with the Pallars Sobirà region, a high mountain area situated in the heart of the Pyrenees.

I started taking my first groups from Andorra for rafting and canyoning, and it was love at first sight with the place and with adventure sports.

It's rained so much since then that nostalgia washes over me. Almost 30 years have passed between the old photos and the new ones, and with that outdated wetsuit, I look like I've stepped out of a Woody Allen film.

Two weekends ago, we were in the area with the best intentions of going rafting, but the weather didn't cooperate. However, even with the bad weather, the client had a fantastic experience because the scenery of Pallars Sobirà is pure Pyrenean poetry.

In the blink of an eye, we put together a Plan B for Saturday and escaped to the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park, the only one declared national park en Catalonia. Some raincoats, good hiking footwear, and off to enjoy nature.

And the next day, we embarked on a magical route dotted with churches and chapels that represent a rich Romanesque heritage, with tall slate-covered bell towers above small villages and hermitages hidden among local hills and mountains, many with surprising frescoes and altarpieces adorning their interiors.
