Hot air balloon

We were going to do it last Thursday, taking advantage of the fact that it was a public holiday in most of Spain and the client could afford to dedicate that day to a Family Day. However, we suffered from excessive winds all week and, with the consensus of the whole group, it was decided to postpone the outing to Easter Monday, a public holiday in our region.

The balloon is less dense than the cold air of the outside atmosphere thanks to the hot air inside the envelope, and this causes it to ascend. The gas burner controls altitude: hot air to ascend and cold to descend, but horizontal flight is dictated by the wind; there is no steering wheel, therefore, we never know where we will land. So it’s not hard to imagine that, with last week’s windy weather, we might have ended up in Honolulu.

Yesterday our task was to track the trajectory of each of the balloons from the ground, an aircraft tracking vehicle, until the pilots indicated it was time to descend, then we picked up the crews, loaded the aircraft onto the trailers, and then enjoyed a hearty cooked breakfast!
