We hired the same farmhouse in L'Empordà, a rural tourism establishment that boasts a spacious kitchen for working comfortably, a dining room with an imperial table, and a generous games room that doubles as a waiting room.
If something works well, don't change it, so we've organised exactly the same competition. The couples came from home with their ingredients already bought. They had to prove they hadn't spent more than 25 euros to create 10 units of each pincho. A draw determined the order of access to the kitchen during the morning and afternoon. Turns of a maximum of 1 hour and 30 minutes. The rest of the group waited for their turn by playing cards, walking in the countryside or going for a bike ride.
The time for the competition arrived, everyone to the table. We took out the tapas according to another draw, so no one knew whose creation was whose (secretly stored by the organisation). Between one skewer and the next, the pairs voted on three concepts: originality, presentation, and flavour.
Then we added up the results and offered a final ranking, a result that was of no importance whatsoever; the really remarkable thing was the great cohesion and desire to have a good time within the group.
