In the Navarrese village of Zugarramurdi are the well-known \u201cCaves of the Witches,\u201d a natural tunnel 120 metres long and 12 metres high, a place steeped in esoteric references, pagan rites, and natural medicine practices.<\/p>\n
Every 18th of August, Zikiro Jatea is celebrated, a gastronomic festival that closes the fiestas where the star is lamb roasted on a stake. We had the immense pleasure of attending in 2015, invited by a local family.<\/p>\n
This feast is a highly anticipated event for the local people, with an attendance of 800 paying diners. Demand is higher, but the organisers are forced to set a limit. It's a day when all the families in the village lend a hand: they light the fire with oak wood, place the hazel poles to support the 800 kilos of zikiro, cook the 180 kilos of veal for the broth, and by the way, the lamb is prepared two days beforehand with marinade.<\/p>\n
We are delighted because in the next edition we will be accompanying a group of 10 executives and their partners to enjoy this gastronomic festival. The previous Saturday, we will queue in the town square, the only way to get the coveted tickets as tradition dictates.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
